- Gas Station V0.2-Alpha adds control layers such as gas caps, package filters, and live updates.
- REGO rules, PTB restrictions and off-chain checks will help sponsors improve contractual use.
IOTA Network announced the release of Gas Station V0.2-Alpha on its official X account on June 18th. This update includes six extensions aimed at providing sponsors with greater control over their smart contract operations. It is built for infrastructure providers, campaign organizers and public DAPP developers, and aims to reduce misuse while maintaining open access.

IOTA adds gas caps and command limits to curb abuse
New gas usage controls allow sponsors to accurately define the amount of gas that an individual address can consume within a given time. The time window is fully customizable, and each sender is tracked independently. This update also allows separation into specific smart contract packages. This is expected to help developers provide freemium access with more effective abuse prevention.
Another feature, command count filtering, allows sponsors to set strict limits on the number of commands allowed per programmable transaction. That change blocks complex hidden batches that may otherwise take advantage of sponsorship policies. The result is a simpler, more enforceable rule set that reduces hidden consumption and provides clearer monitoring.

This version also includes package filtering, a new tool that allows sponsors to specify which exact moving packages they can support. By filtering based on a specific package ID, users can lock sponsorships and make reliable deployments. This step could provide more tighter control over which programs are supported by the gas.
REGO rules and live reloads bring smarter sponsorship controls
For a more customized sponsorship strategy, this version includes support for Lego’s representation-based rule creation. Sponsors can now create complex logical filters, apply them to programmable transaction fields, and load rules from external sources such as Redis, local files, and HTTP connections. These features allow policies to evolve without relocation. This can be important when adapting to new threats.
The new live access rules reload feature also makes policy enforcement faster. This allows administrators to apply updates immediately, such as adding malicious addresses to the reject list, without having to restart the process. This change allows for immediate responses to abuse misuse and save both time and resources.

Additionally, external hooks allow IOTA gas stations to query the external of external systems before greenlighting transactions. These hooks can be used in third-party policy engines or other data such as the age of user accounts, external risk scores, or off-chain context. These additions allow sponsors to take into account actual terms before enforcing funding.
IOTA positions gas station 0.2 as the backbone for builders, infrastructure groups and campaign organizers who demand predictable spending and policy management.
