A wallet associated with LuBian, a prominent Bitcoin mining pool that was hacked in December 2020, moved BTC on Wednesday, ending a three-year dormancy.
According to analytics firms Peckshield and LooknChain, the wallet labeled “39DUz” moved 9,757 BTC worth $1.1 billion to two new addresses, “34kn9z…s9tef” and “bc1q4c…77s0,” respectively.
It remains unclear whether the recent move to a new address represents an attempt to liquidate the coins, or simply move the coins to a new wallet for security or operational reasons.
The coin move followed reports that the US government was considering confiscating 127,271 BTC ($14.4 billion) stolen by LuBian.
The US Department of Justice (DOJ) announced on Tuesday that it had seized $15 billion worth of Bitcoin from Prince Group’s fraudulent forced labor facility operations across Cambodia. According to forensics firm Elliptic, these bitcoins were “stolen” from LuBian in 2020.
