chain linkThe Oracle tool suite is alive now above cantonis a public blockchain built for institutional finance, giving an ecosystem access to real-time pricing, asset verification, and valuation data needed to support regulated financial markets.
This deployment includes Chainlink Data Streams, SmartData NAV and AUM feeds, Proof of Reserve, and Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) will also be launched in Canton in the near future.
What is a canton and why is it important to institutional finance?
Canton is a public blockchain developed by Digital Asset. Unlike general-purpose chains, it is purpose-built for regulated financial institutions that require privacy controls, compliance features, and the ability to process high volume transactions.
Since the mainnet launch in May 2024, Canton has reportedly $350 billion is used in daily U.S. Treasury repo transactions and currently supports over $8 trillion of on-chain real world assets (RWA). RWA is a tokenized version of traditional financial instruments such as government bonds, stocks, and fund shares, and is represented on the blockchain.
Canton is also supported by a Global Synchronizer layer that enables integration with traditional financial systems. Chainlink Labs acts as a Canton Super Validator, contributing to core network functions such as governance, transaction sequences, and interoperability layers.
What chain link products are currently sold in Canton?
This deployment will cover three key products in Chainlink’s data infrastructure stack. Here’s what each one does and why it’s important.
- chainlink data stream Deliver low-latency, real-time market data to on-chain applications. This includes the recently launched 24/5 Equities Streams, which provides price data for stocks and ETFs covering the approximately $80 trillion U.S. stock market. The “24/5” designation means the feed is open 24 hours a day on weekdays, consistent with traditional market hours.
- SmartData NAV and AUM feed It provides figures for net asset value and assets under management, which are standard metrics used in fund management. These feeds allow on-chain protocols to accurately determine the price of tokenized fund shares.
- proof of reserve Provides on-chain verification that tokenized assets are backed by real reserves. This is particularly relevant for loan and collateral applications where financial institutions need to confirm that the underlying assets are genuine before accepting them.
Together, these tools give Canton applications the data layer they need to support lending, margin, settlement, and risk management.
Who is already using Chainlink in Canton?
Several teams within the Canton ecosystem are already running Chainlink data in production. BitSafe’s CBTC, Unhedged, Thetanuts Finance, AngelHack and Temple’s Kairo are among the early adopters. Use cases include on-chain collateral management, decentralized options, and privacy-preserving predictive markets.
Eric Saraniecki, co-founder and head of network strategy at Digital Asset, noted that the ecosystem has adopted Chainlink’s standards faster than expected, adding that the company plans to further expand the range of available tools.
“Canton is working with Chainlink to enable on-chain migration of regulated markets with the security and reliability needed to operate at scale,” said Johann Eid, Chief Business Officer of Chainlink Labs. “This is a decisive step towards fully on-chain institutional finance, leveraging the same Chainlink infrastructure that has already enabled tens of trillions in transaction value.”
CCIP is still a long way off
Chainlink CCIP, which enables the secure transfer of tokenized assets between different blockchains, has not yet been released by Canton, but has been confirmed as an upcoming release. Once operational, institutions will be able to move tokenized RWA between chains without relying on a centralized bridge infrastructure.
Chainlink’s expanding role across institutional blockchains
The expansion into Canton is part of a broader pattern. February 10th, Robinhood launched Robinhood Chain developer testnet. With Ethereum Layer 2 built on Arbitrum technology, Chainlink is listed as an oracle infrastructure provider alongside Alchemy, LayerZero, and TRM. The chain is designed to support tokenized traditional stocks ahead of the planned mainnet launch.
Separately, on February 11th, Ondo Financeintegrated Chainlink provides a price feed for tokenized US stocks on Ethereum and allows users to borrow stablecoins against tokenized stocks such as SPYon, QQQon, and TSLAon through the Euler lending platform. Chainlink also serves as the official oracle solution for Ondo Global Markets, the largest tokenized securities platform by trading volume.
What this means for collateral in DeFi
Ondo’s integration addresses a long-standing technology gap. Tokenized stocks could not previously be used as productive collateral in decentralized finance because the protocol did not have a reliable way to determine their price. Chainlink’s live price feed allows these assets to serve as collateral for stablecoin loans, turning static equity holdings into usable liquidity.
conclusion
With Data Streams, SmartData, and Proof of Reserve now live in Canton, institutions operating on the network can now access real-time pricing, reserve validation, and fund valuation data within a regulated-level environment. Chainlink’s role as a super validator adds an additional layer of integration at the network level.
Introducing CCIP adds cross-chain asset transfer to that stack. These tools are already being actively used by multiple ecosystem teams in Canton to build collateral, derivatives, and market prediction applications on a network that processes hundreds of billions of transactions every day.
