The nominee for the next Fed chair could be announced as soon as this weekend, analysts said.
Analysts at InvestingLive, a US-based financial news site, said the latest information they had on the Fed chairmanship process was shared last week, when it was reported that President Donald Trump could make a decision before or after his visit to Davos.
With President Trump leaving Davos yesterday and returning to Washington, it is thought that the issue of the Fed chairman is likely to be on the agenda this weekend. Analysts say President Trump may have made the final decision.
President Trump said in an interview with CNBC in Davos that the candidates have been narrowed down: “There’s three people left, but it’s actually two. In fact, in my opinion, there’s probably only one.”
The current situation shows a marked change. Rick Reed’s approval rating continues to rise and currently stands at 35%, placing him just behind Walsh. Conversely, President Trump appears to have once again sidelined Kevin Hassett, who had been a leading candidate.
President Trump said in a statement about Hassett: “Of course I want him to stay where he is. I don’t want to lose him. He’s been doing great on TV.” Trump also added that Rick Reed “did a very good job” during the interview process.
