du, one of the UAE’s telecommunications and digital service providers, has launched a cloud miner service that offers cryptocurrency mining opportunities to UAE residents by renting computing power on a subscription basis using existing data centers across the country.
The Cloud Mining as a Service (MaaS) service called ‘Cloud Miner’ is an ICT infrastructure and aims to be a pioneer in sustainable crypto innovation. ‘Cloud Miner’ is designed exclusively for UAE residents, in line with du’s commitment to transparency, security and regulatory compliance.
Customers can bid through an online auction held from November 3rd to 9th on the online auction website.
According to du, cloud-as-a-mining services provide cloud-based solutions that simplify traditional processes. Clients can mine, benefit from potential Bitcoin rewards, and participate in the blockchain ecosystem without the burden of hardware management, electricity costs, or maintenance concerns, and can begin operations immediately after subscription.
Jassim Al-Awadi, CICTO of du, said that the company aims to provide an easy entry point to the world of cryptocurrencies while leveraging du’s reputation, reliability, transparency and security.
He explained: “This service embodies our commitment to innovation, leveraging our robust data center skills and ICT infrastructure to ensure a sustainable future for digital finance in the UAE.”
The carrier distinguishes Cloud Miner with competitive pricing and a transparent, no-hidden-fee contract available for 24 months, allowing clients to conveniently enjoy 250 TH/s of capacity and subscribers to access cryptocurrency mining through a simple web application.
In addition, through the use of UAE Pass and enhanced account security through two-factor authentication, du ensures KYC/AML compliance on high-value transactions, demonstrating the company’s commitment to providing a secure and reliable service.
“The launch of Cloud Miner under the sub-brand du Tech highlights du’s rich heritage in communications. With du’s Cloud Miner, entering the cryptocurrency market has never been easier and more secure,” added Jasim AlAwadi of du.
Bitcoin mining led by UAE companies
Corporate mining activity is already active in the UAE, with companies including UAE Phoenix Group, which launched an IPO last year, and Marathon Digital, which partnered with Zero Two, a subsidiary of the UAE sovereign wealth fund, on a Bitcoin mining facility in Abu Dhabi in 2023.
However, this is the first time that the carrier is offering such a service in the UAE. Globally, for example, Deutsche Telekom subsidiary MMS is working with Bankhaus Metzler to launch a pilot project to use surplus energy to run a Bitcoin mining infrastructure.
