Hive Digital, one of the leading companies in sustainable digital infrastructure, announced the first live GPU computing nodes added to the BUZZ AI cloud platform in Paraguay. The company is already serving the computing needs of academic teams at Columbia University in New York.
Hive Digital Technologies is upgrading its computing facility in Asunción, Paraguay to use sustainable energy for new GPU computing clusters. This deployment is the first cluster to go live based on Hive’s strategy of adding an AI layer and high-performance computing to existing energy facilities.
The GPU cluster is part of a Tier-III data center operated by Paraguay’s leading telecommunications provider and is purpose-built for AI model training, inference, and academic research.
Academic teams use BUZZ Cloud GPUs for research in LLM pre-training and basic model training.
Hive Digital plans to expand Tier-III computing centers
Hive Digital tracks performance of GPU clusters to establish proof of concept for AI computing and connect clients in New York to remote computing locations. Initial testing will provide a non-commercial product that will generate valuable performance data on latency, throughput, and workload management.

If successful, the company aims to build future Tier-III data center capacity in other cities with infrastructure that enables high-uptime, low-latency GPU computing.
The data center will utilize hydroelectric power and the country’s fiber optic infrastructure. The company will grow based on anticipated commercial demand in South America and around the world, expanding at the Tier-III data center compute level.
The team optimizes calculations to improve model quality while reducing computational and memory costs. The academics plan to trade GPT-3 and LLaMA style models and then expand to larger models.
Hive Digital gained a foothold in Paraguay through Bitcoin mining and has since incorporated AI and high-capacity computing into the mix.
