Walrus is a distributed storage platform for SUI developer Mysten Labs, and is a developer of game-centric L1 SUI programmable file storage, as well as Solana, Ethereum, or other chains you want to use.
Walrus is designed for large binary files, or “blobs.” Currently, the total storage is 833.33 TB, with about 78,890 GB currently being used on more than 4.5 million blobs.
This means that Walrus can save videos, images, PDFs or other files, and apps. Walrus makes these blobs programmable using SUI smart contracts.
Flatlander was one of the early projects using walruses. Flatlander is the concept of the imaginary world of the NFTS. Their site is hosted on SUI, and all site resources are loaded from the walrus.
Walrus Mainnet will be released next week on March 27th. The team has also released the WAL tokens Talknemics.
Future data storage chains will use delegated stock proofs. It consists of storage nodes that need to compete with each other to provide competitive pricing for file storage.
Walrus has just raised $140 million in funding from the round led by Standard Crypto.
Is walruses likely suitable for blockchain games and art? I think so.
One of the main attractions of cryptography is that it is supposed to be decentralized. It’s a term that is a lot of term, but it should mean that the underlying infrastructure that supports the existence of tokens, including the chain itself, is owned and operated by many different people around the world. Therefore, if there are sufficient participants to own a small portion of the node, decentralized chains are difficult to censor due to shutdowns.
As we know, NFT itself is not technically an art you see, but the data tied to them with the underlying tokens. NFT visual data is metadata that authors can modify.
That metadata can be stored on a centralized platform such as AWS or on a distributed solution in IPFS. More options aren’t bad, but it’s still not clear what the decentralized walruses will end up.
