Neo, a prominent smart contract platform, announced a groundbreaking initiative to advance blockchain interoperability. In this regard, Neo introduces a message bridge over the mainnet. According to Neo’s official press release, this development will enable efficient cross-chain interaction between Neo N3 and Neo X (EVM). Additionally, applications on either network can now not only exchange data but also trigger cross-chain smart contract logic.
Neo launches developer-focused cross-chain message bridge
With the launch of the message bridge via MainNet, Neo plans to provide a dedicated infrastructure for seamless communication between chains, especially between Neo N3 and Neo X. This development reaffirms the platform’s commitment to establishing a connected blockchain environment focused on builders.
Unlike the token bridges already in place today, which primarily handle asset transactions, message bridges allow arbitrary messages to be sent across the chain. Apart from that, these messages also take into account data payloads and executable instructions.
As a result, this initiative allows utilities such as contract invocation, data storage, and transfer of calculation results. Each additional flexibility greatly improves the developer experience, allowing builders to develop across Neo N3 and Neo X.
With the release of Message Bridge, builders will be able to access exclusive features of Neo N3 via Neo X. Each feature consists of Oracle, the ability to design non-fungible or fungible token bridges, and Neo FS integration. In addition to this, more complex cross-chain flows such as asynchronous requests, multi-step interactions, and swaps are also accessible on the Neo network.
New initiative improves interoperability and next-generation dApp development
To aid adoption, Neo has launched various repositories in parallel with the mainnet deployment of Message Bridge smart contracts. Bridge-sdk-ts provides a TypeScript SDK that works in backend and frontend environments with a seamless interface for communicating with message bridges.
In the meantime, bridge-examples-ts provides practical examples of how to send messages, process returned results, and implement cross-chain logic. Overall, as the Neo ecosystem gains adoption, the latest efforts are expected to play a key role in shaping unique dApp classes developed on top of its robust interoperability layer.
