The allowed domain modification triggers the activation timer. According to XRPL validator Grape, the allowed domains amendment has secured 79.41% support with one vote left, according to xrpscan data. On this amendment, 27 out of 34 UNL validators voted in favor and 7 voted against.
Grape emphasized that allowed domains are approaching a majority. XRP Ledger is just one vote away from unlocking trillions of dollars in institutional capital. “Literally one more validator vote and it’s time to get this done,” he wrote.

To trigger the activation timer, the amendment must receive majority support, or 80%. This means that the allowed domains are only 0.59% away from this threshold. Once there, support must remain above 80% for two weeks to activate on mainnet.

Modifying allowed domains is an enabling feature.
This will ultimately enable permissioned DEXs and enable financial institutions to participate in permissioned flows in XRPL.
Permissioned DEXs enable permissioned trade flows, and upcoming lending protocols may apply permissioned domains for controlled lending and borrowing flows.
Permitted DEXs are expected to act as magnets for payments-related institutional flows. Use cases for institutional investors include stablecoin-to-fiat swaps, contractor/payroll payments, cross-border B2B payments, and corporate treasury.
