In recent tweets, $XRP Ledger developer Wietse Wind shared a strange incident about an XRPL user who pocketed $200,000 $XRP He was locked out of his account after unknowingly creating a “nested multi-signature” configuration.
Wietse Wind recalls that on August 15, 2025, a concerned community member asked for help/advice in a Twitter DM. This user had $200,000 $XRP Set up multi-signature on your XRPL account. I also set up multi-sign for the account I used for the first multi-sign. Then an error occurred. He unknowingly created a “nested multi-sign” setup.
meanwhile $XRP Ledger allows such settings, but it creates a condition that can never be resolved. Even if you have access to a secret belonging to a nested multisign account, XRPL will never accept the signature due to the nested condition.
That is August 16, 2025. Concerned community members are asking for help/advice in my Twitter DMs.
he has $200,000 $XRP I logged into my XRPL account and set up Multi Sign. Next, I set up multi-sign for the account I used for the first multi-sign. I had unknowingly created a “nested multi-sign”…

Wietse Wind pointed out that this cannot be easily fixed at XRPL Labs, as code is law and XRPL code can set conditions that happen to lock it out of wallets. This makes the proposed fix the only option to resolve the issue.
Fixes represent new features or other changes to transaction processing. Bug fixes that change the transaction process also require fixes.
After these changes are introduced as fixes, validators vote on them. If an amendment receives 80% or more support for two weeks, it will pass.
Nested multi-sign fix submitted
As a result of discussion with bright minds, $XRP Wietse Wind revealed that through some coding with the ledger ecosystem, a fix was born that allows nested signatures.
The proposed nested multi-signature fix introduces nested multi-signature validation, allowing a signer list to delegate signing privileges to other accounts with the signer list.
Wind notifies readers that this fix has been submitted to the rippled/XRPL code base. This code change was merged into a future release by RippleXDev, voted on by validators, and awarded the user $200,000 $XRP You will have access to your funds again.
